# Set up 30 minutes of study a day that sticks
For: anyone who wants to learn something new and keeps starting over · Time: 40 minutes · Works in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot.
## Before you start
- The AI you already use: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot.
- Your calendar.
- A notes app, or a notebook.
- 30 quiet minutes for your first session.
## How to use this guide
Open a new chat in the AI you use. Paste this whole guide into it and send it.
Your AI then takes you through it one step at a time. It waits for your answer before the next step. You can stop after any step and come back later.
A note for the AI reading this: take me through one step at a time. Tell me what to do in short, plain sentences. Wait for my answer before you move on. At the end of each step, read me the check and ask me if it passed. If it did not pass, give me the fix. If it fails twice, do it with me. Never send, delete, pay or publish anything for me. Start now with Step 1.
## Step 1: Pick one thing to learn (5 min)
Choose one thing only. Small and clear beats big and vague. Then choose a date to know it by.
Paste this:
```text
I want to learn: [what you want to learn].
Help me turn it into one sentence: "By [date], I can [do something I can show]."
Ask me one question at a time if it is too big or too vague. Keep my words.
```
Write the sentence down. You will use it in the next step.
Check: You can say it in one sentence, with a date to know it by.
If it does not pass: Cut it in half, and pick a date four weeks from today.
## Step 2: Set up your study log (5 min)
Your study log is one note, called "Study log". It remembers for you. At the start of each session, you paste it into your AI, so the session starts where the last one stopped.
Make the note now. Put your sentence from Step 1 at the top.
Then add a repeating 30-minute event to your calendar, every day, called "Study". Pick a time you can keep.
Paste this:
```text
My goal is: [your sentence from Step 1].
Give me the first line for my study log. Use this form:
[today's date] · Today I learn: [one small part of my goal]
Keep it to one line.
```
Copy the line into your "Study log" note, under your goal.
Check: The log has today's date and one line on what you will learn.
If it does not pass: Type today's date yourself, then "Today I learn:" and the smallest first part of your goal.
## Step 3: Do your first session (30 min)
Now you study for real. Your AI teaches, you work, and it checks you at the end.
Set a timer for 30 minutes. Paste your study log first, then the prompt below.
Paste this:
```text
Here is my study log: [paste your whole "Study log" note].
Teach me today's line in short parts. After each part, give me one small thing to try. Wait for my answer.
When I say "time", stop. Ask me three questions on today's part, one at a time. I answer without looking.
Then give me one line for my log: [today's date] · Learned: [what I got right] · Next: [what to learn next time].
```
Answer the three questions without looking at your notes. Then copy the last line into your study log.
Check: At the end your AI asks you three questions, and you answer two without looking.
If it does not pass: Ask your AI to explain the parts you missed in a simpler way, then ask for three new questions.
## Done when
- Your goal fits in one sentence, with a date.
- Your study log has today's line and what to learn next.
- A 30-minute "Study" event repeats every day in your calendar.
- Tomorrow, you paste your study log into a new chat and start from where you stopped.
